Telangana minister KT Rama Rao said that government would set up a mini textile park in Kodakandla of erstwhile Warangal district for the welfare of the weavers. The minister held a meeting on Monday with the department of handlooms and textiles and directed them to take up measures for the establishment of the textile park.

The government agreed to set up the park on the request of the minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao which is estimated to benefit 20,000 families of the weavers.

KTR said that thousands of weavers from Kodakandla have migrated to other states due to the lack of work and all those are making a come back after the Telangana government accorded all support to the handloom industry in the state.

The minister said that weaving of Bathukamma sarees is again given to the power loom workers this year. "The handloom workers have been benefitted even during the coronavirus crisis due to the 'Nethannaku Cheyutha' scheme launched by the state government. As per the scheme, the beneficiaries ought to contribute a share of eight per cent towards the savings scheme, while the government would contribute 16 per cent up to a maximum of Rs 2,400 per month.

"We are receiving requests from the weavers to continue the scheme and the same will be taken to the notice of the Chief Minister," KTR said.

He directed the officials to prepare a report on the allocation of funds to the handloom and textile industry in the Telangana budget 2021.
