Rs 47.37 crore granted for completing pending development works in Rajendranagar division

Highlights

Contractors are yet to commence works, especially road and drainage works, in several areas

Ranga Reddy : Many works in the Rajendranagar Assembly constituency have not been completed due to the negligence of officials and contractors. The government had sanctioned Rs 47.37 crore to finish the development works, especially the road and drainage works, which have been pending for a long time in Attapur, Rajendranagar, Shastripuram, Mailardevpally and Suleman Nagar.

While works cost Rs 12.64 crore needed to be completed in Mailardevpally division, works worth 10.96 crore to be taken up in Rajendranagar division, Rs 5.60 crore worth works are pending in Suleman Nagar division, Rs 9.15 crore worth works in Attapur division and works worth Rs 9.02 crore in Shastripuram division. The negligence of the officials and the contractors is the main reason for delay in commencement of works. Further, the roads and drainage systems were badly damaged in the recent floods, which needed to be fixed.

Despite the GHMC officials giving contracts, the contractors are not commencing the works in several areas.

Rajendranagar circle GHMC Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Kumar said that the contractors were not commencing works even after finalising the tenders. "Strict action would be initiated against the contractors if they fail to commence the works as early as possible," said the Deputy Commissioner.
