Madhapur: Serilingampally MLA and Government Whip Arekapudi Gandhi on Sunday inaugurated 50 CCTV cameras in Sirki Society office under Bharathinagar division, MIG, set up by the society and the police at a cost of Rs 7.5 lakh. Madhapur DCP Venkateswar Rao, Additional DCP Venkateswarlu, Miyapur ACP Krishna Prasad, Chandanagar CI Ravinder, Miyapur CI Venkatesh and local Corporator Sindhu Adarsh Reddy were present. Addressing the gathering, the MLA, who donated Rs 1 crore for installing the CCTV system from his constituency development fund, remarked that the police were striving to maintain law and order and were creating widespread awareness on setting up of CCTV camera to the colony. He said one CCTV camera was equal to 100 police personnel, and called upon the residents of all colonies to go for them.

Gandhi observed that CCTV cameras help in protecting people, particularly women, and to check thefts, as they aid in identifying suspects involved in offences. The legislator launched jute bags while calling upon people to shun plastic items. "Everyone should strive for getting plastic items banned." The colony residents should try to make it the best and secure the award. Gandhi pledged his help in developing both the division and the colony, while assuring to strive for providing basic facilities in the colony and to solve problems like drainage, water supply and roads.
