Hyderabad: The much-awaited ionic structure of Telangana Martyrs Memorial is fast taking shape. The memorial is being built in memory of those who sacrificed their lives for the separate State of Telangana.

"This memorial is going to be one of its kind in the country. Work has been started on 2.5 acres of land next to Lumbini Park. The memorial will resemble an elliptical star-shaped structure with a flame raising to about 20 meters above the terrace level, emanating from the terrace on a side," said a senior officer of the roads and building department. About 20 per cent of work is completed.

As per the design, six floors are being constructed along with two basement floors. The first floor will accommodate a museum, a photo gallery, a meeting hall and an art gallery, all depicting the sacrifices made by the people for the cause of statehood to Telangana. Also, on the same floor, a museum is being planned along will an audiovisual room.

The monument has been designed in the form of a traditional diya (earthen lamp) in honour of the Telangana movement martyrs. A flame-like structure will be constructed using fibre material, starting from the second floor and rising two floors into the sky. The structure will be aglow at night.

A convention hall would be constructed on the second floor for national and international seminars that would accommodate around 700 people. The third floor would have a restaurant. The parking lot will accommodate 350 cars and 600 two-wheelers.

The major attraction of structure would be a cascading daring fountain with walkways on either side leading to the entrance of the structure. Also, there will be a stupa of about 10 metre height with Telangana Thalli idol on the top.

Apart from that, the structure would have other necessary facilities that include ample water supply, STP, fire detection, and alarm system, fire hydrant system, automatic sprinkler, security surveillance system, water harvesting pits would be provisioned. It would take almost five months to complete this project and the estimated cost of the project is Rs 80 crore, added the senior officer.
