Vijayawada: Paediatric gastroenterology services have been introduced for the first time in both the Telugu states at Andhra Hospitals here. Children with all gastrointestinal problems, liver diseases and advanced endoscopy are being dealt here at Andhra Hospitals.

Dr Upendra Shava, paediatric gastroenterologist and hepatologist, is a fulltime consultant providing the services at Andhra Hospitals. Addressing media here on Saturday, Dr Upendra said that his expertise in dealing with children gastro and liver problems like - chronic constipation, endoscopic biopsy, CTT (movement studies) vomiting, gastroesophageal reflux, chronic diarrhea, chronic pain abdomen, serious conditions like – blood vomiting treatment with endoscopy, injection/bands control, blood in stools – polyps/ ulcers - endoscopy removal, acid ingestion – emergency and long term management and food allergies.

He would also deal with neonatal jaundice – diagnosis & early surgery, older child – liver infection/ jaundice/ several liver failure, hepatitis, chronic liver disease, acute pancreatitis & several life threatening chronic pancreatic disease and inflammatory bowel disease.
