Boy entering girls hostel in IIIT Nuzvid exposes chinks in security
Security lapses at the IIIT Nuzvid once again exposed when an intermediate student from the boys' hostel entered a room in the girls' hostel midnight and spent one-day with a girl.
Vijayawada: Security lapses at the IIIT Nuzvid once again exposed when an intermediate student from the boys' hostel entered a room in the girls' hostel midnight and spent one-day with a girl. Though the incident took place four days ago, it came to light only on Saturday afternoon with the leakage of video footage while breaking the lock and forcibly opening the door in the girls' hostel.
The IIIT management had suspended four security personnel from the duty and two students a boy and girl, both are minors studying in the same campus and been staying in boys and girls hostels separately.
According to information, the IIIT functioned three days recently. A boy student studying intermediate in the same campus had entered the girls' hostel room bending the window rods. Five other girl students staying in the same room knew the incident and did not inform to others.
They went to the classrooms as usual the next day. Other girls living in the hostel had suspected some foul play and locked the room and informed to the security. With the permission from IIIT management, the security personnel broke the lock and opened the door three days ago. The entire episode was shot with mobiles to keep as proof. The video footage was leaked on Saturday.
The boy was hiding under the bed and the girl was inside the room when security personnel entered the hostel room. The girl is studying engineering first year and the boy is studying intermediate in the same campus.
IIIT Vice-chancellor Prof K Hemachandra Reddy told The Hans India that it was only internal matter and no student from outside entered campus. He said four security personnel were suspended immediately and two students both boy and girl were also suspended. He said the parents of two students were summoned and the students were handed over to parents.
The VC said probe has been ordered into the incident. He said there was no role of teaching staff in the incident because it occurred late hours. He said the security situation of the campus will be reviewed and adequate steps will be taken to increase protection to the girl students living in the hostel.
On the other hand, parents are worried with the video of the incident gone viral on Saturday. Both the boy and girl were seen clearly in the video shot by someone when the lock was broken, and the door was opened. The incident created a commotion in IIIT Nuzvid, where more than 7,000 students mostly from rural background are studying.
