Chittoor: The Government of India has given green signal to allocate Rs 320 crore to Chittoor district under the AMRUT (Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transmission) scheme of which Rs 280 crore will be diverted for constructing Adavipalli Reservoir to supply drinking water to city, said MP N Reddappa.

Required quantity of water would be diverted through Handri Neeva Sujala Sravanthi (HNSS) to NTR Jalasayam, Chittoor from Adavipalli Reservoir for supplying drinking water to all the divisions in Chittoor city, he added.

Speaking to media here on Wednesday, Reddappa admitted that drinking water scarcity has become chronic for Chittoor since decades. "Though Chittoor happens to be the district headquarters, it is still trailing behind due development.

Then Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who represents the district, has failed to develop the city apparently. Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has already instructed District Collector Dr N B Gupta to develop an action plan for developing Chittoor on par with Tirupati," he added.
