Kurnool: District witnessed a decline in crimes in 2020 compared to 2019. SP Dr Fakkeerappa Kaginelli, revealing this at a press conference on annual crime review here on Monday, said the department was using latest technology to bring the crime under control.

According to him, road accidents came down by 7.65 per cent compared to last year. While a total of 1,153 road accidents took place, 521 persons succumbed to injuries and 1,372 were injured. An amount of Rs 11,06,29,700 was collected for traffic violations and 4,06,411 cases were registered. As many as 1,209 drunken drive cases were also filed. An amount of Rs 84,89,250 was collected from those violated Covid norms.

v. Preventive Detention (PD) Act was used against three persons for not mending their behavior. Several persons were booked for IPL betting.

Dr Fakkeerappa said rowdy-sheeters were being counselled every Sunday across the district. Cordon searches were being conducted in the problematic villages. The police are also taking stringent measures to protect women. The government has launched Disha app, AP Police Seva App (87 services have been made available without people going to police station), Dial 100, Sakthi Team No 7777877700, Kurnool district police WhatsApp No.7777877722 were being used for immediate rescue of women in trouble, he explained.

As part of closed circuit television community project, 15,662 cameras have been set up. For foo-proof security at temples, geo tagging was implemented. Police patrolling has been intensified to bring the crime under control. As many as 64,463 persons have registered for Locked House Monitoring System (LHMS). People are being educated on cyber fraud and 90 cybercrime cases have been filed Rs 3,35,35,253 has been recovered.

The SP said 4,039 abandoned and orphan children were caught under Operation Muskan in the district. Of them, 3,146 were boys and 892 were girls. He further said 435 cases for transportation of sand were also filed and 833 persons were arrested, 505 vehicles and 6,661 metric tonne sand was seized.
