Tirupati: A mega cheque of Rs.34.07 crore was released by the Deputy Chief Minister K Narayana Swamy, Minister for Panchayat Raj P Ramachandra Reddy and District Collector Dr N Bharat Gupta towards the crop insurance for 26,094 beneficiaries, at a programme held in Tirupati on Friday. This crop insurance was pending for the year 2018-19 under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bhima Yojana (PMFBY) and Restructured Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme (RWBCIS).

Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy initiated the programme through video conference from Amaravati for which the ministers, Collector, Joint Collector – Revenue D Markandeyulu, Agriculture Joint Director Vijaya Kumar and others participated from RDO office in Tirupati.

On this occasion, the Chief Minister has said that the previous government has not paid Rs.296 crores of its share to the insurance companies due to which the farming community could not get the crop insurance in time. This government has more focus on farmers welfare and clearing the old dues also. With the intention of helping the farmers, Rythu Bharosa Kendras, E-crop booking, crop insurance with just Re 1 contribution are being implemented, he said.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Chief Minister K Narayana Swamy has said the farmers are very happy as the government has stepped into their rescue and fulfilling their needs. The CM has been taking steps to bring irrigation water for the farmers in Rayalaseema, he added.

Minister P Ramachandra Reddy has said that farmers have got insurance for groundnut, tomato, paddy, sugarcane and mango for 2018 kharif and rabi seasons. He described that no other CM in the country has never implemented so many welfare schemes for farmers.
