Tirupati: Tirupati MLA Bhumana Karunakar Reddy and MP Balli Durga Prasad have laid foundation stone for Rejuvenation of Vinayaksagar Lake Project (Phase 1) at a cost of Rs 11.31 crores under Smart City mission, on Thursday.

It may be noted that Vinayakasagar is one of the major tanks located on the outskirts of the Tirupati city on the way towards Tirumala. The Municipal Corporation of Tirupati (MCT) has decided to develop the lake as tourist spot.

As part of that MCT conducted ground-breaking ceremony at Vinayaksagar. The project has been undertaken by Tirupati Smart City Corporation Limited (TSCCL) under the Smart City Mission.

As part of the project, greenery will be developed around the lake in the open space to attract tourists and common people. Vending zones and advertisement spaces will be provided for the benefit of visitors.

MCT also plans to get income through recreational activities at the lake. This entertainment and beautification project was designed by AECOM.

Implementation agency is Ms. Earthin Projects Limited in joint venture with NJR Construction Private Limited. MCT has fixed 6 months duration to complete this project.

MLA Bhumana Karunakar Reddy said that rejuvenation of VinayakaSagar Project is very useful to the people for spending leisure time with families at tank bund.

Later , MP B Durga Prasad said that with government of India and state government funds, MCT is developing various infra projects to enhance the city beauty.

MCT Commissioner PS Girisha, Engineers B Chandrashekar, Venkatarami Reddy and other officials were present.
