About 3,000 former students from across the world to attend the three-day celebrations

Visakhapatnam: Andhra Medical College (AMC) centenary celebrations will be held from October 27 to 29, according to AMC Centenary Celebrations Committee chairman T Raviraj.

Briefing the event details to the media here on Tuesday, he said Andhra Medical College was set up on July 19, 1923 and completed a 100 glorious years in 2023.

The committee decided to hold centenary celebrations under the aegis of AMC Association. Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankar, AP Governor S Abdul Nazeer and Ministers would take part in the celebrations, the committee chairman said.

Commenced with 32 medical students in the year 1923, the prestigious institution grew steadily and by the year 1950 it was able to provide super specialty services. Those who studied in the institution have settled well in various parts of the country and abroad and are extending medical services.

Further, Raviraj said the Union Health Minister would participate during the inaugural event. The Vice-President of India along with the Governor and Ministers would take part in the second day of the celebrations, he mentioned. On October 29, a musical night will be held along with Telugu Sahiti Vaibhavam, the committee chairman said. While the inaugural programme will be held at Andhra Medical College, the rest of the events will be held at Andhra University Convention Centre, he mentioned. He revealed that about 3,000 former students from across the world are attending the event.

Marking the occasion, the members of the AMC Association have come forward to facilitate a centenary building without relying on government assistance and it will be inaugurated during the three-day event. The State government allocated 1.6 acres of land next to the medical college for the purpose, while the construction of the building was completed at a cost of Rs 50 crore with the donations collected from the alumni. AMC Principal G Butchi Raju, KGH Superintendent P Ashok, AMC alumni and professors participated in the conference.
