Vizianagaram: The State Cabinet, which met on Thursday, sanctioned a tribal engineering college in Kurupam constituency in the district. It is the first of its kind institute. Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy made the assurance during his election campaign that he would sanction a prestigious educational institution to Kurupam, which the backward area.

The Cabinet, chaired by the Chief Minister, sanctioned the engineering college and thus fulfilling the election promise. The Cabinet also accorded administration sanctions and ordered the release Rs.153 crores for the institute, according to officials.

Fifty per cent of seats in the college will be reserved to students belong to tribal community and rest for other students. YSThe JNTU-K college of Engineering would look after the management and function of this new tribal engineering college.

Deputy Chief Minister P Pushpasrivani expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister for sanctioning the engineering college.
