Supreme Court To Hear Plea On Quashing CBSE Exams Notification On Thursday
The Supreme Court on Tuesday began hearing petitions by a group of parents seeking the quashing of a notification issued by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for conducting the remaining examinations of class XII from July.
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday began hearing petitions by a group of parents seeking the quashing of a notification issued by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for conducting the remaining examinations of class XII from July.
Parents expressed concern that conducting the examinations during the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic could make students vulnerable to exposure of the deadly virus. Appearing for CBSE and the Centre, Solicitor-General Tushar Mehta sought an adjournment from the Supreme Court stating that discussions on the issue are at an advanced stage. He assured the Supreme Court that by Wednesday evening a decision in the matter would have been arrived at.
The petitioners pleaded for an early listing following which the Supreme Court Bench agreed to schedule the next hearing to June 25 at 2 PM. While the Indian Council for Secondary Education (ICSE) submitted that it would follow the CBSE decision in broad terms, the Supreme Court is reported to have said that the ICSE is free to tweak the CBSE decision and follow the 'informed decision'. The solicitor general also clarified to the apex court that the CBSE decision is not binding on ICSE.
The three-judge bench of the Supreme Court was led by Justice AM Khanwilkar.
