The Tirumala temple has been witnessing heavy rain since last midnight due to a low-pressure area formed in the Bay of Bengal. Along with the Tirumala temple, the streets, cottages, parks, roads, and accommodation complexes were inundated with incessant rain. On the other hand, the low-lying areas were submerged in rainwater. The Amaravati Maha Padayatra, which is being held by the farmers and women of the capital in demand to retain Amaravati as the only capital of Andhra Pradesh, continues despite the rain. The padayatra has started in Naguluppalapadu of Prakasam district on Thursday. Farmers wearing umbrellas and raincoats moving forward as it is raining in the area. The low pressure formed in the Bay of Bengal has become stronger. The low-pressure area is centered at 430 km east-southeast of Chennai and 420 km southeast of Puducherry. On Thursday morning, the meteorological department warned that it would strengthen further and turn into a cyclone in the southwestern Bay of Bengal. "It will then move west-northwest and cross the coast near Cuddalore between Karaikal in Tamil Nadu and Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh on Thursday evening," the Met office said.Read more

The excise police on Wednesday seized 450 kg of ganja that is being smuggled on a two-wheeler here at Kaukur under Malkajgiri limits. The worth of ganja is estimated to be of Rs 1 crore, the police said. They seized the bike and ganja and arrested two persons. It is yet to be learned that from where the two persons procured ganja and to where it is being transported.Read more
