It is a fact that demonetisation was a self-goal for Modi and a prominent 'black mark' against the government. The draconian step that was sprung on the unsuspecting people has the capacity to blot out whatever good the government may claim to have done during its term. The common man was the worst affected by not being able to use his own money to pay salaries of domestic workers or labourers, apart from other transactions.

The introduction of the two thousand rupee notes in the absence of lesser denominations added' insult to injury' as people could not deal with lesser amounts due to shortage of change all around. The effects of the nightmarish situation are still evident, by the unfamiliar and ill-fitting colours on new notes and the shortage of specific denominations. Such laws should have been introduced only after preparing the people in slow phases. Demonetisation will surely be reflected in the coming elections.
