Hyderabad: With the Durga Pooja/Navaratri festival just round the corner, a team of members from Attapur Bengali Association (ABA) visited Pochampally village for a silk tour.

The Association planned to visit to the traditional saree weavers of the State with an objective to support the local economy and promote the culture of the State. It was also aimed to encourage the women to buy handlooms and silks this season and flaunt it with style.

The initiative was planned to boost the morale of the local weavers in Pochampally and uplifting their artistry. ABA would like to dedicate a day during the Durga Pooja to the Pochampally weavers with all the women of the samiti getting dressed in their Pochampally and handloom sarees.

The visit to the Pochampally village was a hit and the women of the Association were ecstatic to find wide varieties of handloom at a reasonable price. Members of the Association spent quality time interacting with the weavers and their families.

Speaking on the occasion, Subir Roy, president, ABA says," Durga Puja is one of the biggest festivals for all Bengalis. We celebrate the vibrancy of the festivity with new fabrics and thus this trip added a special charm to our Durga Puja preparation. It was a wonderful experience to visit the weavers of Pochampally and learning about their culture and life.

This year we wanted to extend our support to the real craftsman by including them in this festival of joy" Pochampally village in Telangana is the home to the craftsmen who have mastered the art of silk saree weaving. Pochampally has traditional looms, whose design is more than a century old. There are around 5,000 looms in the village which churn out these magical sarees.

Attapur Bengali Association (ABA), a non-profitable organization established in 2017, is dedicated in promoting the cultural and social heritage of Bengali culture in Hyderabad by organising various cultural, social, charitable, educational, and recreational programmes throughout the year.

ABA has also put their footprint by organising Durga Puja event with pomp & glee along with other Bengali festivals, which were accredited by various agencies in and around Hyderabad A visit to the Ikkat gateway encouraged the weavers and restored their pride in their craft.
