Begumbazar: Hafiz and Qari Abdul Qayum Nomani Imam and Qateeb, Jama Masjid, Siddi Amber Bazar, called upon Muslims not to get carried away by the social messages calling for discarding of animal skins.

They should donate them to seminaries following sacrifice of animals on Eid-ul-Azha. In a media statement, Nomani held that on the day of sacrifice, Muslims should follow the practice ordained by the Islamic teachings and should not waste the skin, which would set a bad precedent. Despite drop in prices of raw material like animal skin, they should continue the practice of donating it to seminaries.

A debate is going on within the community about the significance of animal skin, the raw material for leather. In this context, some Muslim clerics in Bhiwandi (near Mumbai) convened a meeting recently and observed that the skin of the sacrificial animal should be destroyed by cutting it into four pieces and as an alternative measure they should provide funding to seminaries or NGOs. With this measure, they hope, things would be set right and traders would get right price by the next year.
