Begumpet: Bid to lay siege to Pragathi Bhavan, called by the ABVP in support of the ongoing RTC strike, was foiled by the police here on Wednesday. Leaders and students were taken into custody by the Police near the Chief Minister's residence cum camp office. Several leaders were arrested in the midnight and early hours by OU and Begumpet Police. Some activists escaped from campus hostels and joined the protest at Pragathi Bhavan.

Jeevan, convener at ABVP Secunderabad vibhag, said, "The RTC workers have been on strike for the past 19 days, and the CM has not held any talks. The strike has been going on in a democratic manner to fulfill their demands.

The ABVP demands that the government should end the issue immediately, and we condemn the illegal arrests by the police in the campus made without any intimation. Police are entering illegally onto the Osmania Campus without the permission of Vice Chancellor and arresting us, keeping criminal cases against students. As Osmania University leaders, we censure the entering of OU Police inside the campus."

Around 226 students were arrested by police and 300 police personal were deployed at Pragathi Bhavan. However, the police acted swiftly and foiled their attempt. They arrested ABVP leaders and were sent to Gosha Mahal Police Station.
