Hyderabad: The State government has decided to increase the commission of ration dealers from existing Rs 900 to Rs 1,400 per metric tonne.

Finance Minister T Harish Rao and Civil Supplies Minister G Kamalakar, following detailed discussions with representatives of various ration dealers associations in the Secretariat on Tuesday and announced the decision. This will benefit more than 17,000 dealers across the State. According to officials, at the State formation the commission was mere Rs 200; this was almost seven-fold increase in the history of the State. The government has allocated Rs 139 crore for this purpose.

The meeting decided that PDS shops will be allocated to the kin of 100 ration dealers who died due to Covid. With 35.56 lakh card holders, the PDS scheme, where 6 kg rice is distributed, benefit 91 lakh people in Telangana.
