Hyderabad: Alekhya Vemuri, a 15-year-old budding artist and studying in Class 11 in Meridian School, Banjara Hills, has raised funds voluntarily through the sale of her artworks and handed over a cheque for Rs 87,200 to Cyberabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar.

The cheque was donated towards 'Operation Smile,' an initiative by the cyberabad police for education and basic amenities for the children who have been rescued from child labour and begging.

"The cheque was handed over in the presence of her parents, Viswanath Vemuri and Jayasree Vemuri, and Women & Children Safety Wing (W&CSW) DCP Anasuya.

This cheque was donated towards 'Operation Smile'- an initiative by Cyberabad Police for Education and Basic amenities for the children who are rescued from child labour and begging," said a senior police officer. Sajjanar very much appreciated the generosity of Alekhya for coming forward to help the rescued children, which would really make a change in their lives.
