Legal awareness camp held for undertrials
A Legal awareness camp by Swathi Reddy, Secretary, Metropolitan Legal Services Authority, and Legal Aid advocates was held at Central Prison in Chanchalguda on Thursday.
Chanchalguda: A Legal awareness camp by Swathi Reddy, Secretary, Metropolitan Legal Services Authority, and Legal Aid advocates was held at Central Prison in Chanchalguda on Thursday.
During camp, Swathi Reddy interacted with all under trial (UT) prisoners and spoke about the legal rights of prisoners under judicial custody. Further they also assured in extending legal services to the poor, deserved prisoners in engaging an advocate on state's cost and rendering services in obtaining bail or plea. Secretary also stated that accused is not guilty until it is proved.
Legal Aid advocates and social councilors collected the particulars of prisoners who needed legal services.
The Superintendent of Prison, K Arjun Rao, expressed gratitude for the efforts of Metropolitan Legal Services Authority in extending the services to the prisoners who deserved this under law, which facilitates speedy disposal of long-standing cases.
Deputy Superintendents Dr D Srinivas and S Srinivas Reddy, Jailors, A Venkatesham, V Shashikanth and R Srinivas and other jail officers were present on the occasion.
