Falaknuma: Despite nod from the GHMC for coming up with a proposed model market at Jangamet in Falaknuma, it is yet to materialise even after three years. The civic body's reluctance to vacate the adamant businessmen who are holding some space has been blamed for the delay.

The proposal of model market at Jangamet was forwarded by local corporator Mohammed Abdul Rahman three years back, which was accepted and a total space of 350 sq yds of government land was sanctioned, which currently houses private boxing club, dairy products shop and City Grandhalaya Samstha branch library.

"The space for the Market was allotted in a dilapidated building beside Risala Ground in Jangamet. However, a section of the space is encroached upon by the store owner, who is running a dairy shop illegally," said Jangamet division corporator, Mohammed Abdul Rahman.

Rahman told The Hans India that in the entire area there is no market and the residents have to visit Rythu Bazar in Falaknuma. "The proposed model market will be consisting of around 40 shops and provide employment opportunity to the people and the residents will have better access to the market in area close to their houses," said the corporator.

"In the building a private boxing club and a City Grandhalaya Samastha branch library is present. One store is running illegally in premises which is the cause for the delay of the project as the owner is not ready to vacate the premises," added Rahman.

He said that despite assurances that space would be provided to all the existing businesses and library, the store owner was not ready to vacate the area and the GHMC was not taking up the issue seriously, hence delay in the project. "The Chief City Planner has promised to vacate the space under Section 405 GHMC Act, but even after several months no action has been taken," he added.

Rahman further said that he raised the issue in several general body meetings and several representations were also given to Zonal Commissioner and GHMC Commissioner to remove the encroachments and to start the construction works of model market. The last representation was given to GHMC Commissioner in June 2019," the corporator informed.
