New building sought for Osmania Hospital
The Osmania General Hospital Joint Action Committee on Monday submitted a representation to the Health Minister, Eatela Rajender requesting him to consider the long-standing demand of construction of new building for Osmania General Hospital (OGH).
Afzalgunj: The Osmania General Hospital Joint Action Committee on Monday submitted a representation to the Health Minister, Eatela Rajender requesting him to consider the long-standing demand of construction of new building for Osmania General Hospital (OGH).
While referring to several representations in this regard to Health Minister and Principal Secretary of Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, the JAC recalled several instances in which the issue was brought to their notice. "We have also submitted representation to Chief Minister in 2018 for construction of OGH and the State government has already promised and announced the same," stated Dr R Pandu Naik, JAC chairman.
He pointed out that OGH was a 100-year-old building catering effective tertiary care centre for terminally ill underprivileged patients. Due to non-maintenance of the building for a long time, roof plaques frequently fall in many wards and operation theatres compromising the safety of patients, staff and students. "TSMSIDC (Telangana State Medical Services and Infrastructure Development Corporation) has already evaluated the structural strength of the building and labeled it as unsafe and many wards have been shifted to different buildings located on the OGH premises. As OGH is already overloaded with patients more than its capacity, patients are compromised in allocating beds are witnessed in all wards of the hospital," he added.
The JAC has been arguing that being a largest teaching Hospital in Asia, there were no adequate faculty rooms, seminar halls, demonstration rooms and resident accommodation in the hospital due to space constraint. "We request you to construct the new building in vacant place on the hospital campus as early as possible to improve health care services in safe and secure environment to meet the minimum mandatory standards," the JAC Chairman emphasised in the representation.
