Musheerabad: Telangana BC Advocates Association organized a round-table conference on appointment of BC, SC ST advocates to higher courts at BC Sadikar Bhavan, Himayat Nagar on Sunday. The conference was presided over by D Srinivas Yadav, president of BC advocates association and coordinated by Ravinder, general secretary of the association.

Speaking on the occasion, chief guest R Krishnaiah, the national president of BC Welfare Association, opined that lack of judges in higher courts from BC, SC and ST could affect social justice. It is a blot on Indian judicial system that BCs, SCs and STs who constitute 80 per cent of total population do not have proper representation in higher courts, he lamented.

Many able advocates from the downtrodden classes in Telugu states were not given opportunity as judges, Krishnaiah said. According to a report submitted recently in Parliament, the representation of backward and downtrodden classes was as low as 5 per cent, which was unfortunate considering the fact that the nation celebrated 71st year of independence recently, he said. He called upon the advocates from BC, SC and ST communities to be ready to wage a struggle for the proper representation of their communities in the higher courts.

President of Telangana BC Welfare Association E Satynarayana opined that due to lack of proper representation to the backward and downtrodden classes, most of the rulings by the higher courts were against reservations. Srinivas Yadav, the president of BC Advocates Association, said that they would soon meet Prime Minister to seek reservation quota for BCs, SCs and STs in the appointment of judges for higher courts.

He said that 'Chalo Delhi' programme would be organised in the next month as part of their struggle against the injustice. Advocates would pressurize all the political parties to bring in reservation quota in judicial appointments, he said. Several prominent advocates of High Court participated in the round table conference.
