Hyderabad: Various people's organizations staged protest rally on Thursday, condemning the demolition of the statue of Eshwar Chandra Vidyasagar, a key figure of Bengali renaissance, in Kolkata. Activists of All India Democratic Students Organization (AIDSO), All India Democratic Youth Organization (AIDYO) and All India Mahila Samskruthika Sangham (AIMSS) participated in the protest.

Speaking on the occasion, president of AIMSS CH Prameela accused RSS and BJP of destroying democratic values. Citing the incident of demolishing of Vidyasagar's statue, she said that the incident clearly demonstrated how communal parties such as BJP were destroying the democratic values.

She further said that the incident had shocked all those who believed in democratic principles. She termed the incident as a deliberate attempt to destroy secularistic and democratic values. She demanded that the West Bengal state government take stringent action against those involved in the attack. Leaders of people's organizations CH Murahari, K Bharath, Gangadhar, Shailaja, Hemalatha and others participated in the protest.
