Anantapur: In an incident, two children were allegedly tied to a bench in the classroom by the headmistress Sridevi for their mischievous behaviour. This incident has occurred at Moosanpet Upper Primary School in Kadiri mandal of Anantapur district on Thursday.

The issue came into light when the parents of the students brought it to media attention. The two children studying in class 3 and class 5 said that it was the headmistress Sridevi instructed class 4 student to tie them up.

When questioned about the incident with the headmistress, she shifted the blame on to the children's parents. Where she said that the mother of one of the children had come to school, complaining that the boy is stealing things from school and bringing them home.

She further said that the Class 5 boy had been punished for writing a love letter. Sridevi denied that she had not tied the hands and legs of the children, blamed that it was the parents who tied the students to the bench.

Responding on the issue, AP Bala Hakkula Sangham president Achyuta Rao filed a complaint with the district Collector and the National Commission for the Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) and demanding action against the school principal.

Speaking to media, APSCPCR (AP State Commission for Protection of Child Rights) chairperson Ganta Hymavathi said that the matter is with the Municipal Commissioner and the District Collector and based on the inquiry report, the action will be taken.
