New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief, Arvind Kejriwal, who led his party to a massive victory in the national capital, will meet the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Anil Baijal today. He is scheduled to chair a meeting of AAP MLAs at his residence at 11 AM, where Kejriwal is expected to be formally elected the leader of the AAP Legislature Party.
The AAP chief may be sworn in either on February 14 or February 16. Interestingly, Arvind Kejriwal took his oath as the chief minister of Delhi both in 2013 as well as 2015, on February 14.
AAP won 62 of the 70 assembly seats in Delhi, results of which were announced on Tuesday. The BJP which waged a high-pitched, bitter campaign managed to get only 8 seats. Congress turned out to be the biggest loser failing to register a single win in the national capital.
Arvind Kejriwal has vowed to continue the development work which his government had undertaken over the last five years. The AAP chief has also responded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's congratulatory message by thanking him and adding that the Delhi government would cooperate with the Centre.
The first 2-3 years of the AAP government's term were marked by several run-ins with the Central government. Later, Arvind Kejriwal fine-tuned his strategy, avoiding confrontation with the Union government. He also stopped attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi directly, as he had been doing earlier.
