New Delhi: Delhi Lieutenant-Governor Anil Baijal is scheduled to visit riot-hit areas of the capital on Friday afternoon. The Lieutenant-Governor will review the situation in North East Delhi large areas of which were affected by riots between Sunday and Wednesday. Meanwhile, senior IPS official SN Shrivastava who will take over as the Delhi Police Commissioner on Saturday, told media persons that 2 Special Investigation Teams (SITs) had been formed to probe the violence which broke out in the national capital earlier this week. He told the media that 48 FIRs has been registered and that police teams were actively collecting evidence and probing multiple violent incidents.

SN Shrivastava said that he and other senior police officials had spoken to community leaders and peace committee members to ensure that no untoward incident takes place. Security in several parts of the national capital has been strengthened ahead of Friday prayers.

The senior police official said that normalcy had been restored in the national capital and that people had resumed normal lives. He pointed out that 4 cases of murder and 2 cases of attempt to murder had been registered. Multiple cases were being probed, he added.

The death toll in the violence which rocked North East Delhi has now reached 39 while more than 200 injured have been undergoing treatment. A worrisome aspect of the violence and number of dead is that of the 39 casualties, 21 are reported to have died of bullet injuries.
