Delhi Violence: Special Cell Arrests PFI Leaders
The Special Cell of the Delhi Police arrested two prominent leaders of the radical outfit, Popular Front of India (PFI) with regard to their involvement in violent incidents in North East Delhi.
New Delhi: The Special Cell of the Delhi Police arrested two prominent leaders of the radical outfit, Popular Front of India (PFI) with regard to their involvement in violent incidents in North East Delhi. The arrested leaders are the PFI general secretary, Muhammad Ilyas and its Delhi president, Parvez Ahmed, a resident of Shiv Puri, which was one of the worst riot hit areas in the national capital.
DCP MS Randhawa told media persons on Thursday, that more than 200 arrests have been made so far. The senior police official said that all personal calls are being scrutinised. The crime branch wing of the Delhi police is also monitoring CCTV footage closely, he added.
The investigation team is probing the role of outsiders into the violence which rocked North East Delhi, MS Randhawa said. Face recognition technology is being used to identify offenders and criminals. The Delhi police is constantly in touch with neighbouring states, he pointed out.
Police has blocked accounts of those who spread fake news on social media and who have tried to fan hatred, the police official added. FIRs have also been lodged in this regard, he said.
Media reports stated on Wednesday that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had booked a case of money laundering against suspended Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Councillor, Tahir Hussain. Some of his relatives and associates have also reportedly been arrested by the Delhi police.
