According to the police, the accused, a rowdy-sheeter sneaked into the ashram with an intention to steal the money. However, Sainath is said to have killed a man identified as Shinde first, kept his body in a bathroom and then went to the seer.

The accused stole Rs 69,000, a laptop and other valuable items from the seer and strangled him to death with a charging cable. Later, he tried to flee in seer' car keeping the dead body in car's trunk but ended up crashing the car into the Ashram's gate.

Sainath got off the vehicle and fled the ashram on a bike. The residents of the Ashram found the dead body of the seer in the car and alerted the police on Saturday night. The accused is said to have indulged in a murder case that was registered against him at Dharmabad police station 10 years ago.
