Tenders cleared for T irrigation project
The major irrigation project of Kantanapalli with a total layout of over Rs 10,000 crore meant to irrigate 7.5 lakh acres in three of the Telangana districts finally gets going. Minister for Major Irrigation P Sudarshan Reddy said that the government issued orders to start the construction of PV Narasimha Rao-Kantanapalli Sujala Sravanthi Project on the river Godavari at Eturunagaram in Warangal district. In a statement on Saturday, Sudarshan Reddy said that Sew-Rithvik (JV) company, which quoted Rs 1,809 crore, 9.1 per cent less amount to the internal benchmark, obtained the contract. He said that the company would start the work immediately.

Hyderabad: The major irrigation project of Kantanapalli with a total layout of over Rs 10,000 crore meant to irrigate 7.5 lakh acres in three of the Telangana districts finally gets going. He said that the company would start the work immediately.
After the foundation stone for the project was laid in 2009 by the then Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy there has been criticism from all Telangana quarters that the later governments were not moving ahead with the construction. Referring to the project, he said that the project was part of Jala Yagnam and it started in 2004.
“But, the project was not gone through due to various reasons”, he said, adding that the project designed to stabilize Sriramsagar Project stage -1 and 2 to irrigate 7.5 lakh acre in Warangal, Nalgonda and Khammam districts. He said that a barrage would be built on Godavari with 85 meter height to store 22.5 tmc of water. He said that 50 tmc water would be lifted from the barrage in the monsoon season and be taken to Kakatiya canal to extend water to the proposed ayacut. He said that the cost of the barrage is estimated as Rs 1,809 crore.
Explaining the project details, he said that the Government has given administrative sanction of Rs 10,049 crore in 2009 including Rs 1,809 crore for barrage cost. He said that three joint venture companies participated in the barrage construction bid, cost of Rs 1,809 crore including Patel-Press (JV), Soma Enterprises and Sew-Rithvik (JV). He said that Sew-Rithvik got the bid by quoting the price as Rs 1,643 crore. He said that the state high level committee finalized the contract on August 30. “The works of the barrage would be commenced soon”, he said.
