Rajahmundry: At last, following the public uproar over the quality and pace of execution of Godavari Pushkaram works for the last few months, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu responded on the issue. He lambasted almost all the officials on the quality and pace of works and suspended two sanitary staff members on the spot. There are indications that the Chief Minister may take action on some morel officials in coming days. But, it seems too little and too late.

With just a couple of days remaining for the prestigious Godavari Maha Pushkarams, the damage has been done and very little can be made to rectify the mistakes at this point of time. The Chief Minister arrived in Rajahmundry on Saturday afternoon to inspect the progress of works in connection with the Pushkarams.

His anger over the delay in execution of works was evident right from the minute he came out of Madhurapudi airport. He expressed his anger over East Godavari District Collector H Arun Kumar and Special Officer Dhanjunjay Reddy on seeing the condition of the airport road through which VVIPS would arrive in the town.

Later, he stopped the vehicle at veterinary hospital where the sanitation is pathetic. He immediately suspended one sanitary inspector and a sanitary worker on the spot. When he reached Aryapuram area, he found a lot of silt accumulated in Nalla Channel, which is the main drain in the town.

He vented his ire on Municipal Commissioner J Murali and made it clear that he will not tolerate slackness toward sanitation. Later, he expressed anger on Rajahmundry Urban district SP S Harikrishna after noticing heavy rush at traffic island. Subsequently, he expressed displeasure over the beautification works at Rajahmundry Central Prison.

The authorities have tried their level best to prevent the Chief Minister from visiting the places where the works were not completed and formulated a roadmap. But, the Chief Minister did not follow the roadmap set up by the officials and conducted sudden inspections at several places. He made it clear to the authorities that he would be ruthless if the works were not completed before his next visit to the town.
