Kakinada: The domestic LPG cylinders supplied by the Hindustan Petroleum Company are bent at the shroud (collar) causing panic among customers. Usually, a strong iron rod in a circular shape stands on a three metal plates (collar plates) which protects the cylinders from damage. Due to rough handling of the gas cylinders by the delivery staff and due to the transportation methods, they are prone to bend at the collar.

The HP cylinders supplied in Kakinada, were bent at the collar. A consumer Talluri Sudhir informed ‘The Hans India’ that he had complained about these crippled cylinders to the HP gas agency in Kakinada. However, the gas agency did not respond. Sudhir is concerned that these gas cylinders might blast due to the negligence of the gas companies.

He alleges that it seems that the gas authorities are in deep slumber and there is no evaluation for safety when all these cylinders come out from the filling station to reach millions of homes across the state.

“HP gas officials should know that these crippled cylinders are not only threat to the consumers who receive them but also the neighbours that live close to the houses which they have been supplied,” said Sudhir.

The consumer said that he is about file a PIL (Public Interest Litigation) on the safety status and condition of the domestic gas cylinders.
