Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was real ‘Samaikyavadi’ as she was instrumental in keeping the State united, observed Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reedy. He made it clear that he was the Chief Minister for all the regions. He reminded that YSRCP president YS Jaganmohan Reddy stated in the past that the State could be bifurcated according to Article 3, but later he backtracked and started talking in favour of Samaikyandhra for the sake of votes.
The Chief Minister asserted that Andhra Pradesh could achieve development only by staying united. He made comments on the bifurcation of the State during his visit to rain-affected areas in the East Godavari district on Thursday. He utilised the death anniversary of late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to reiterate his stand in favour of Samaikyandhra at a public meeting held in Gollaprolu in the district.
Addressing the public after observing two-minute silence as a mark respect to Indira Gandhi, the Chief Minister reminded how the former Prime Minister, during a speech in Parliament, supported the view that Andhra Pradesh should remain united. He lauded Indira Gandhi for striving to keep the State united. Quoting Indira Gandhi’s speech in parliament in 1972, following the Telangana movement in 1969 and the Jai Andhra movement in 1972, he pointed out that Indira strongly felt that the State had more to lose than gain in the event of bifurcation.
At another public meeting held at Sivakodu in Razole mandal of the district, the Chief Minister said that he was making efforts to strengthen the party.
Amalapuram MP GV Harsha Kumar termed the Chief Minister as the ‘hero of Samaikyandhra’. He said that the Chief Minister was very strong in expressing his views on bifurcation and had been clear in dealing with the high command on the subject. He thanked the Chief Minister for introducing SC, ST Sub Plan Acts in Andhra Pradesh as they would change the lives of SCs and STs. Union Minister for Human Resource Development MM Pallam Raju, Ministers Thota Narasimham and Pithani Satyanarayana, MPs, MLCs, MLAs and other leaders were present.
