Three contract workers died in an accident in the Fourth Unit of the NTPC thermal plant here on Thursday. According to the NTPC officials, the three workers - B Venkata Ratnam (45), N Sudharsan (40) and Devasayam Muni (35) - who were working under the tower of the Fourth Unit of the plant, were hit by huge coal boulders that fell from the overhead bunker feeder and were seriously injured.
They were taken to the NTPC hospital immediately but they succumbed to their injuries on the way to hospital. The tragedy occurred when the NTPC Thermal Power plant was celebrating its Foundation Day.
Plant General Manager Subhashish Gosh, Peddapalli MP G Vivek, MLA Satyanarayana, Mazdoor Union leader Babar, Congress leader Kaushik Hari, TDP leader Ilaiah and others visited the hospital. The trade unions and political parties demanded an ex-gratia of Rs. 25 lakh in addition to providing employment in NTPC to one member of the deceased workers’ families.
