Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy is said to be on a spree of clearing files at high speed even on important issues without consulting the concerned ministers or discussing the issue in the cabinet meeting.
According to sources, Kiran had recently cleared two files pertaining to irrigation projects. He had recently cleared a file pertaining to Polavaram project brushing aside the objections raised by minister for major irrigation P Sudershan Reddy. Another file Kiran had cleared this week was with regard to the Dummugudem project ignoring the objections raised by the irrigation minister.
Dummugudem project was to be constructed over the river Godavari in Manuguru of Khammam district.
The state government had sanctioned administrative clearance in 2009 for Rs 19,521 crore. The project was designed to have six lifts so that 22 lakh acres could be irrigated. This project requires 1136 mw of power. Though the project got administrative sanction in 2009, the works have been going on at a very slow pace. The manner in which CM has been clearing files pertaining to irrigation department had become a topic of discussion among senior officials of the department. They feel this could lead to new controversies in future.
