The Minister for Mines and Geology, Galla Aruna Kumari, said on Tuesday that the government had issued a GO, exempting seigniorage fee for levelling of land for agriculture and civil purposes.
In a statement, Aruna Kumari said that the government had received thousands of appeals against levy of seigniorage fee and heavy fines by the vigilance department on levelling their lands and building their own houses by using that soil.
She said that the government considered all the issues and decided to exempt the seigniorage fee on farm and civil purposes. She said that the exemption would not be applicable where the material was brought from outside the premises for levelling purpose.
