Hyderabad: MP and noted animal rights activist, Maneka Gandhi on Sunday said that that animal killing, poaching had been the source of big money in India. The clandestine business involved a whooping 100 million dollars and the need of the hour was a bold initiative to curb it by initiating stringent measures.
She made a fervent appeal to the corporate houses to play a big role in protection of animals. “Animal welfare and protection can also be part of the corporate social responsibility (CSR),” she said.
Addressing the gathering at the valedictory function on animal law training programme, she guided the participants about the animal welfare strategies and provided them with much needed inspiration to step forward in the chosen path.
The five-day training programme, launched on November 27, was jointly organised by Animal Welfare Board of India, Nalsar University of Law, Blue Cross of Hyderabad and Humane Society India. It was organised in wake of the increasing incidents of animal abuse cases being reported in the country.
