Hyderabad: Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Friday asked the Telangana protagonists in the Assembly to explain whether he belonged to Telangana or Seemandhra.
Intervening in the debate on Draft AP Re-organisation Bill on Friday, the Chief Minister said that he could win if he contested from Telangana. “I was born in Hyderabad, brought up in Hyderabad and played cricket for Hyderabad. I get this doubt after listening to the argument of CPI leader Gunda Mallesh,” he said.
Though many members including T Harish Rao (TRS) and E Dayakar Rao (TDP) were on their feet to offer their clarification, Speaker Nadendla Manohar did not allow them. Mallesh tried to explain that Kiran was a Telanganite at heart. “But, votes and seats are forcing him to project himself as a champion of Seemandhra. Kiran wants to get elected and become the Chief Minister of Seemandhra,” he said.
Referring to the Chief Minister’s earlier assertions that he would abide by the decision of the party high command on Telangana, Mallesh said he was unhappy that the CM had changed his stand on Telangana. Reacting to it, Kiran said that “United Andhra Pradesh is not my slogan but my policy.
I did say that I would abide by my party high command’s decision. But, why I differ from my high command’s stand is a matter between me and my party. Still, I will clearly explain why I am going against the decision of the party when I speak on the Bill.” TRS leader T Harish Rao felt that change of soil did not change the traits of seed and, hence, though Kiran was brought up in Hyderabad, he continued to be a man from Seemandhra.
