Karimnagar: Union Minister K Chiranjeevi stated that the Centre had sanctioned Rs 150 cr for the development of tourist places in Andhra Pradesh and out of this amount Rs 73 cr was allocated for the development of tourist places in Telangana region.

The Union Minister laid foundation stone for the works relating to Light and Sound system at Elagandala Fort in Karimnagar mandal on Sunday.

Following the request from Karimnagar MP Ponnam Prabhakar, the works were taken up and an amount of Rs 5 cr was allocated for the works, the Minister said. Addressing the gathering, he said that he would strive for the development of tourism in the country, especially in AP. The development of tourism would provide more job opportunities in the country and that would be helpful to unemployed youth. Funds were allocated to tourist spots in Telangana – Ali Sagar (near Nizamabad), Elagandal Fort and Kothakonda Veerabhadra Swamy temple (both in Karimnagar district), Basar, Kakatiya Festival, Nizamabad, Bhadrachalam and Tank Bund in Hyderabad.

Proposals were sent for the development of other tourist places in the region with an estimation of Rs 73 cr, he said.

Mr Chiranjeevi said that he would discuss with the Central Rural Welfare Minister and try to get funds for the development of road leading to Elagandar. The request for the laying of road was made by MLA Gangula Kamalakar. MP Ponnam Prabhakar, in his address, sought more funds for the development of tourist places in Karimnagar district.

Government Whip Arepalli Mohan, in his address, requested the Minister to try to set up Haritha Tourist Hotel and the development of Manakonduru tank in the district.

Civil Supplies Minister D Sridhar Babu, Endowments Minister C Ramachandraiah, Husnabad MLA Praveen Reddy,SC Corporation chairman Adluri Lakshman Kumar and other officials were present.
