Tirupati: YSRCP activists led by Chandragiri constituency convener and former TUDA chairman Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy on Wednesday obstructed the convoy of Union Rural Development and Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh at Guruvarjupalli check post. Ramesh was his way to Tirupati after arriving at the Renigunta airport

The Minister and the local MP Chintha Mohan who was accompanying him were forced to return to the airport. Police did not anticipate protests by the YSRCP activists.

As the convoy was turning back to the airport, the YSRCP activists went running after it, raising slogans. But, they were stopped 500 metres from the airport entrance by the police and the airport security.

A high drama was witnessed with the Chevireddy Brhaskar Reddy and his followers shouting slogans of `Jairam Ramesh go back,’ accusing him of being instrumental in the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.

The police had tough time, keeping them at bay, to prevent any untoward incidents of their barging into the airport complex. Renigunta DSP Srinivas and SI Sainath gave protection to the VIPs. Tirupati urban police district SP Rajasekhara Reddy rushed to the airport to monitor the situation. Additional police forces were called in to remove the protesters to pave way for them. Chevireddy and his supporters, numbering about 50, were taken into custody and moved to Yerpedu police station. The remaining YSRCP activists were forcibly dispersed. At Tirupati, the Union Minister inaugurated a newly constructed hospital for pregnant women at SVRR Hospital and also laid a foundation stone for a cancer hospital.
