Hyderabad: The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) is making elaborate arrangements for the `Mahanadu', the party’s annual convention, to be held on May 27 and 28 at Gandipet on the city outskirts. This Mahanadu assumes great importance for the party for two reasons. One, it will be the last one in undivided Andhra Pradesh. Second, the party would be coming to power after a decade in the residuary State of Andhra Pradesh.
This will be the ninth Mahanadu to be held at Gandipet. This convention will frame the policy guidelines for the party’s Telangana and Andhra Pradesh units. According to the sources, party president N Chandrababu Naidu has directed the committees, which are working on various resolutions to be adopted at the Mahanadu, to include a detailed note on how the TTDP MLAs should conduct themselves in the new Assembly.
The TTDP MLAs have a major role to play in the first Telangana State Assembly. Apart from cooperating with the new government in the development of the new State, they should also remain alert and keep the new government on its toes so that the government would implement the promises it had made. The party will also unveil the annual calendar for both the party units on May 28 at the concluding session of the Mahanadu.
The TTDP leader Ravula Chandrasekhar Reddy and APTDP leader Kalva Srinivasulu said as many as 17 committees were formed to look after the arrangements for the convention. “People have voted in favour of the TDP in Seemandhra. Though the party could not secure majority seats in Telangana, the people have supported our ideology and work done by the party,” Chandrasekhar Reddy stated.
Many issues are likely to come up for discussion during the convention. The party politburo member Yanamala Ramakrishnudu has been tasked with the job of preparing the political resolution. The Mahanadu will also pass a resolution paying homage to all those who sacrificed their lives for the cause of Telangana statehood. Other issues to be included in the resolution are -- help to the families of martyrs, recognition for them as freedom fighters and withdrawal of cases against those who participated in the Telangana agitation. Demand for financial assistance to the tune of Rs 10 lakh and job to members of the martyrs’ families will also be included in the resolution.
