Hyderabad: Osmania University, the hotbed of Telangana agitation, is gearing up for the celebration of the Telangana Formation Day on June 2. While the student community has already made elaborate plans to celebrate the event, the administration has also made arrangements to mark one of the defining moments of its chequered history.

Vice-Chancellor Prof S Satyanarayana will hoist the national flag on Monday at 9 am followed by the national anthem in front of University College of Arts and Social Sciences.

The principals of all the campus and constituent colleges of OU will also hoist the flag at their respective colleges on the same day at 10 am.

The OU Students JAC, which spearheaded the movement and bore the brunt in every phase of the agitation, has drawn up plans which include a huge meeting in front of the sprawling Arts College arena. The university, which lost some of its students during the course of agitation, will pay respects to the martyrs and then proceed to the main event. Folk songs, speeches by eminent people will mark the occasion.

The OU Teachers Association has also announced that a special public meeting was arranged on Monday at 11 am to celebrate the Telangana Formation Day.

Meanwhile, University Registrar Prof K Pratap Reddy informed that the reopening of undergraduate colleges, after summer vacation, for the academic year 2014-15 was put off to June 6 from June 2.
