The fifth garment fair of the Apparel Manufacturers and Marketers Association (AMMA) was launched at the A Convention Centre on Saturday. Vijayawada East MLA Gadde Ramamohan Rao inaugurated the two-day annual fair.

He said Vijayawada was a textile trade hub of Coastal Andhra and there was a steady increase in the volume of the textile business in the city over the years.

“The State government would do everything possible to give a boost to textile trade in the city. Land would be provided if a group of textile traders and manufacturers came forward to set up an apparel industry in the suburbs of the city. The government would also develop basic infrastructure in the designated capital for the development of apparel industry as it helps generate considerable employment opportunities for local youth,” he said.

AMMA president Harischandra Prasad said that the annual fair would help bring garment manufacturers, dealers and retailers of the new State on one platform. In all, 57 stalls have been set up at the fair meant for dealers and retailers. Major garment brands like Twills, Club Linen, Integriti, Denim and regional brand RR Sports and others are taking part in it. The fair is expected to do good business in view of the forthcoming festival season.

“Due to lack of adequate work, textile workers and tailors are migrating to Ahmadabad, Mumbai, Chennai and Bengaluru from AP. The migration of workers and tailors can be checked if the apparel industry in the State is given a big boost,” he said.

AMMA secretary Venkat Naginedi, treasurer Nikhil Mehta, chief advisor Jayesh Shah, corporators Jasti Sambasiva Rao, Chennupati Gandhi and others were present at the event.
