Hyderabad: In yet another act of bountiful benevolence, the Union government allocated required funds and logistical support to Andhra Pradesh again, apparently to strengthen the energy sector in the State.
The Union Ministry of Power agreed to provide Rs 1,350 crore from National Green Energy Fund (NGEF) for construction of evacuation lines for solar and wind projects.
The number of the proposed solar-based agriculture pump sets sanctioned has been enhanced from 4,000 to 8,000. The Centre will give 30 per cent of the cost of these pump sets as grant.
Disclosing the details after attending a high-level meeting convened by Union Special Secretary RN Choubey in New Delhi on Thursday, State Secretary (Energy) Ajay Jain said the Centre also directed Western Coal Fields (WCL) Limited to supply additional quantum of 1 million tonnes of coal to AP, which was beneficial to bring up the coal stock position for comfortable operation of thermal plants.
The official sought assistance of the Centre for renovation and modernisation of old thermal power units which have served more than 20 years in Dr Narla Tata Rao Thermal Power Station in Viajayawada and Rayalaseema Thermal Power Plants (RTPP) at Mudhanuru and for strengthening of distribution and transmission network in APEPDCL, APSPDCL and APTRANSCO.
Stating that the Union ministry appreciated the efforts to make success the 24x7 Power For All (PFA) scheme, the official said the government was preparing Detailed Project Report (DPR) for improving distribution in rural and urban areas.
