Hyderabad: The row over conducting common entrance test for professional courses between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana has now reached the Centre. The two Telugu-speaking States, till Monday evening, did not make any headway on conducting Engineering, Agriculture and Medical Common Entrance Test (Eamcet). Even the suggestions made by Governor E S L Narasimhan had reportedly cut no ice between the two Education Ministers.

Following this, the Andhra Pradesh Education Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao had once again met the Governor before dashing off to New Delhi to attend a meeting convened by the Union Human Resources Development Minister Smriti Irani. The Minister is expected to seek the Centre’s intervention to solve the imbroglio.

According to a senior officer in the State Higher Education department, the Minister would raise the Eamcet issue with the Union Minister drawing her attention to the Telangana’s unilateral decision to conduct the common entrance test, which Andhra Pradesh considers it as a violation of the AP Reorganisation Act.

Meanwhile, Telangana too had made its intentions clear to the Governor once again that it was well within its legal preview to conduct Eamcet. Telangana made its offer to conduct the common test for Andhra Pradesh too if it agrees or it would go alone. This stance of Telangana was made clear to Andhra Pradesh.
