New Delhi: Andhra Pradesh Women Empowerment and Child Welfare Minister Peethala Sujatha requested the Centre to release Rs 1111 crores for various women and child schemes under the Centre’s budgetary allocations. She also asked for Rs 874 crores for the construction of Anganwadi buildings in the state.

If the Centre heeds to the state’s request then the enhancement for each building will rise from Rs 4.5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh in the coming Union budget which will be presented in the Parliament on March 28. She also brought to the attention of the Centre about the need to increase honorarium to Anganwadi staff, and the pension amount to retired workers.

Peethala Sujatha met the Union Minister for Women & Child Development Maneka Sanjay Gandhi requesting for enhancement of funds and release of additional funds in forthcoming budget. Maneka Gandhi congratulated the minister for successful implementation of Integrated Child Development Schemes (ICDS) schemes in Andhra Pradesh particularly for elimination of malnutrition among women and children, reduction of Infant Mortality Rate & Maternal Mortality Rate and commended the Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu

The minister informed Maneka Gandhi that Kadapa district in Andhra Pradesh has high female ratio so it mandates the government to encourage the girls to attend schools. To this effect, the minister requested Rs 1.70 crore for publicity campaign under “Beti Bachao – Beti Padavo” programme from Government of India out of which most of the fund will be spent in Kadapa district. Peethala Sujatha invited Maneka Gandhi to visit Andhra Pradesh to experience the implementation of the women and child programmes. Maneka Gandhi is likely to visit after the Budget Session of the Parliament.
