The cultural capital of Andhra Pradesh is bracing up for the last day of Maha Pushkaralu which is Saturday. According to official estimates, about 4 crore pilgrims took holy dip in River Godavari in twin Godavari districts till Friday and it is expected that 50 lakh more pilgrims may take dip on the 12th and final day of Pushkaralu.

Rajahmundry: The cultural capital of Andhra Pradesh is bracing up for the last day of Maha Pushkaralu which is Saturday. According to official estimates, about 4 crore pilgrims took holy dip in River Godavari in twin Godavari districts till Friday and it is expected that 50 lakh more pilgrims may take dip on the 12th and final day of Pushkaralu. The number of pilgrims who took holy dip on Friday in the town was relatively lesser when compared to other days, but, still significant number of pilgrims took holy dip.

Rajahmundry is geared up for the greatest festivities on Saturday to celebrate the last day of Maha Pushkaralu. Stalwarts in music including Mangalampalli Balamuralikrishna and Hariprasad Chaurasia will perform in Rajahmundry on Friday. Mahabrunda Natyam by 1,000 artistes from Kuchipudi Naatyaraamam would be an added attraction.

Pilgrims taking holy dip in Godavari on the penultimate day of Pushkaralu in Rajahmundry on Friday

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu along with other dignitaries will witness Godavari Harathi at Pushkar Ghat at around 7 pm and will release Pramidas into the river marking celebration of Intinta Pushkar Deeparadhana. Later, the sky will be lit up with fireworks in a grand style and laser show is going to be the main attraction.


The programmes scheduled to be conducted at Government Arts College in Rajahmundry on Saturday include Karra Samu and Kathi Samu by K Appa Rao at 4 pm, Puliveshalu by A Gopi and team at 5 pm, Chekka Bhajana by Yesanna and team at 5.30 pm and Carnatic music at 6 pm.


Anticipating heavy rush on the final day, the government is taking all precautions to see that the pilgrims take holy dip in the river in a smooth manner. Director General, Intelligence, AB Venkateswara Rao, on Friday spent good time at the place where the major fire accident took place on Wednesday night near Gokavaram bus stand in which several vehicles were gutted and examined the place very carefully and spoke to the owners of the cool drink shop and hotel which were damaged.

Speaking to reporters, Endowments Minister P Manikyala Rao opined that a probe should be conducted into the stampede that took place on the first day of the Pushkaralu and the fire mishap on Wednesday. It is also learnt that the stampede incident came for discussion during the recent Cabinet meeting held in Rajahmundry.
