Kakinada: The Congress which received severe drubbing in AP in 2014 polls, has no representation either in LS or in AP Assembly, and several of its leaders are now politically unemployed.

In East Godavari district, even senior leaders like former Union HRD Minister M M Pallam Raju have been maintaining a low profile after the poll debacle.

The party leadership in a bid to revitalize the party made former MLC and senior leader Kandula Durgesh Prasad (who unsuccessfully contested for Rajahmundry LS seat) as DCC chief. Durgesh has been conducting several programmes on his part with active participation of senior leaders.

Under this backdrop, it is learnt that some former MLAs who were associated with the Congress for several years have been knocking at the doors of YSRCP and looking towards greener pastures.

The names that are being heard prominently are, two-term MLA and former TTD Trust Board member Pamula Rajeswari Devi, who represented P Gannavaram and earlier Nagaram Assembly segments, Ponnada Satish Kumar and Rapaka Varaprasad who represented Mummidivaram and Rezole segments respectively in the previous Assembly.

On the other hand, the YSRCP which won 5 Assembly seats out of 19 in East Godavari in 2014 polls, is said to be trying to consolidate its position keeping in view the future needs particularly in Konaseema area in the district where it has representation only in Kothapeta with Chirla Jaggi Reddy as MLA out of total 7 Assembly segments in the area.

The leaders seem to be eager to soon shift their loyalties as the Kakinada Corporation polls are likely to be held in very near future.

The YSRCP is keen on improving its strength in EG district as there is a sentiment that the party that holds maximum seats here will wrest the power in the State.

When contacted, East Godavari DCC president K Durgesh said that, both Satish Kumar and Varaprasad were not participating actively in Congress activities for some time, while Rajeswari Devi has been a Congress loyalist from the beginning.
