Visakhapatnam: Municipal Commissioner Praveen Kumar informed the public here on Saturday that registration of marriages is compulsory as per Andhra Pradesh Marriages (Compulsory) Registration Act and it should be registered within 30 days from the date of marriage.

He said that the registrations could be done with the registrar and who is also the Chief Medical Officer of the GVMC by submitting filled-in application form by the newly married couple.

In case of Christians, Khajis and Parsis, their religious elders have to produce a marriage certificate after noting it in their registers for the purpose of final registration.

The newly married couple, along with two witnesses, can approach the Chief Medical Officer, along with marriage photos, residence proofs and video tapes.

The couple would get registration certificate later after the registration. If the marriage registration is done between 30 and 60 days, the parties have to pay Rs 100 as registration fee. Praveen Kumar informed that a help centre was opened near the GVMC Saukaryam Centre to get more information about the marriage registrations.

Meanwhile, the commissioner as part of his regular field inspection, visited the areas from Vemana Mandir to Gajuwaka where he examined the plantation work, roads, upgradation of central medians and footpaths, watering of plants and the status of tree-guards.
